WNBA Roundup: Ionescu’s play lifts clutching Liberty to win over Sky

NEW YORK – Sabrina Ionescu’s three-point play with 9.7 seconds left lifted New York’s 83-80 win over Chicago Sky on Saturday night to seal a five-game losing streak.

Lagging 80-78 with 19 seconds left, Ionescu grabbed the ball and led the lane where she was fouled by Rebecca Gardner. Ionesco, who finished the game with 17 points, nine assists and eight rebounds, turned the free throw to give New York (10-17) the lead.

Chicago (21-7) got the ball but Candice Parker missed a shot in the lane just over two seconds ago. After Michaela Onen had two free throws, Sky had one last chance, but the Emma Meesseman 3 pointer bounced off the ledge at the bell.

The loss ended Sky’s six-game winning streak.

Parker finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds for Sky.
