Ranil had long dreamed of becoming the head of state of Sri Lanka. This pro-Western leader could not succeed in contesting the presidential elections of 1999 and 2005. Ronil’s dream came true as Gotabaya’s political party Sri Lanka Padujana Peramuna (SLPP) got full support in yesterday’s election.
His uncle Junius hoped that Ranil would become the president of the country one day. Before he died in 1996, Junius expressed this hope to family members. Ranil came to politics by his hand. Now Ranil has to deal with the worst economic crisis since independence. Before that, he also has to face the challenge of gaining the trust of the protesters.
